Trust

The wolf stands with its back arched into a wide curve, almost a spiral — head lowered toward its front paws, body holding a readiness that could break in any direction. Its eyes stay open, alert. One body holds two states at once — stillness and vigilance — and that combination is what makes it a safe place for someone else's sleep.

At the scruff of its neck, where the fur turns into flame, a tiny fairy lies — eyes closed, her body dissolving into the same wavy lines as the fur around her. She rests without gripping, without any effort to hold on: her weight is given over entirely, with nothing held back. Trusting a power the size of a whole world doesn't mean becoming its equal; it means accepting your own smallness and falling asleep inside it.

Trust runs both ways here: the beast, who could shake off this uninvited weight with a single motion, chooses to carry it instead. Strength that chooses stillness over action is a rare kind of strength.
