Connection
A red dragon coils across the whole canvas: the same crimson Yashcher that already guarded the threshold in "Hyperfocus Resonance," except here it no longer stands beside its dimorph-guide but has grown into him. Pale cords run from the dragon's body to the rider, winding around shoulders and neck like nerve fibers grafted into a foreign soma — not a bridle, not reins, but something closer to a synapse: contact is made, and a signal passes through it that reduces neither to power nor to taming.
The dragon's pupil is shaped like a keyhole — an eye built as a port, waiting for exactly this kind of connection. In his hand the rider holds a bundle of threads marked with the same runes that cover the dragon's cords — holding the connection literally, by hand, so it won't break: not electricity, not blood runs along these lines, but something like an impulse — as if matter had its own nervous system, and spirit its own electrochemistry.
Under ultraviolet light, the dragon's coils flare with a cold inner glow while the rider's figure fades into shadow, as if the charge were withdrawing to where it's needed more. The source of that light reads more clearly here than by day, but which of them actually conducts for the other, the painting doesn't resolve.
