Kali is the goddess of death, time, and liberation: her Tandava dance precedes the re-creation of the world. Her necklace of skulls carries every letter of Sanskrit — she herself is language, the substance of sound. From the red earth, hands reach up in karana mudra: a gesture warding off evil, known even to the dead.

Messages are written around the goddess — words encircle her the way a mantra encircles a yantra. Three golden brushes in her hand: creation as a form of destruction, destruction as a form of creation.
