A Hu-Li

Victor Pelevin created A Hu-Li this way: two thousand years in one body, a gaze that sees through any illusion, a cynical tenderness toward the human race. The artist takes this image and translates it into the language of Polymorphic Art — the werefox as the ideal dimorph, a being of two natures, a conduit between the manifest and the hidden.

The mask over the upper half of her face is not concealment but a choice: she decides what to reveal. The patterns on her tail appear under ultraviolet light — a hidden text for those who arrive with the right light. Her eyes glow in the dark: the fox sees always and everywhere — it is her nature.
